Evaluation Question Three (3 Draft)
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product
and why?
In my
research I manage to determine that the appropriate media distributor for my
magazine would be Summit Media. The reason I believe this is because they are
determined to publish a large group of magazines which are trusted and
successful within different countries and regions: such as, Candy, Yummy and
Yummy and YES! Because of the success they have received as individual magazine
companies I feel that they will be beneficial to my magazine. As well as these
other magazines summit media have distributed and published a magazine I used
as inspiration in my research called SPARKLING. When it comes to evaluated the
aimed demographic of both my magazine and the magazines already published by
summit media I can see direct correlations which indicate a success level- the
most successful magazines belonging to summit media are bought by the age range
of my intended audience. Sparkling is very like mine in the sense that it
tackles the same content and connects on the same genre however, Sparkling is
aimed at a different age range- (8-15) – and it is aimed at an audience of a
different country (the Philippines). Here by mine is aimed at an older audience
as well as a different country which hence challenges and differs from the
ideas and concepts of sparkling and offers more of a ground for summit to
receive an element of publication and success.
Ways in which
I would publish my magazine would be via the internet and therefore I would
tackle above the line marketing industry as well as appeal to summit medias
strong elements of publishing as they specialise in distribution online. This
would also appeal to my audience as it is a well-known element of students to
feel the need to keep update and attached to technology- it also make the
magazine easy to access for students who like to live on their phones. I would
have my magazines ideally sold in airports or big shops which tackle the music/
media industry (HMV, base.com or the hut) as I do not believe that any small
connections/ stores would wish for my genre of music to be advertised. The
possible idea of a free magazine being offered with an order above a certain
price at clothes websites, such as YesStyle, Romwe and others, remains a possibility.
This magazine would also be considered as marginally high-end because of it
pricing and the pricing scheme does follow that of other publications from
summit media so therefore it would not fit out of place with this element of
distribution.
