Evaluation Question Four (4 Draft)
Who would be the audience for your media product?
My intended
audience for my magazine consists of students/ older teenagers aged from 15-20.
Because they are this age it means that they would be able pay a monthly amount
to keep up to date with their niche and alternative genre. The audience would
be English, American or any other English speaking countries as it allows international
fans to be in touch with the changes in their genre for a change. The audience
obviously defines the content and style of the magazine. In fact, it defines
everything about the magazine. It could be said that I designed this magazine
for someone like myself- I am 16 (so I fit nicely in my target audience age
bracket) and I find it difficult to keep in touch with the changes within my
genre. Therefore, the idea of there being a magazine with everything in it
saves any international fan time from scoping through various social networking
sites and hearing false news.
The age of
the artist I have featuring on the cover of my magazine also had to be taken
into consideration as I wished it to be someone that the young audience could
identify themselves with. I did not wish to make this magazine come across as a
gender focused ideology as this genre of music is stereo-typically linked to
females, therefore I used models and artists of both sexes and tried not to
stick to conforming to the idea of the male gaze- therefore I put my male
artist as the ultimate focal point of my magazine.
In the end
the audience needed to be catered for as they/ we are not ones who easily
identify ourselves with the genre. The magazine consequently needed to come
across as respectable and something people could want to identify themselves
with. The tone of the
article and content is allowed to be chilled out and relaxed when considering
my audience- in-formalities are able to be used as well as nonstandard English
and jargon/ metalanguage. Other
magazines such as BROMIDE wrote the majority of their articles with formal
language however they used metalanguage as way of connecting with their
audience and this allowed me to gather the idea of adopting this convention and
developing it by writing in standard English with a few in-formalities in order
to connect my audience further.
